Midwifery vacancy rates in the United Kingdom are dropping. However, midwives feel that they are being undervalued and downgraded without merit. The RCM says that the main problem is that midwifery on-call work continues to go unpaid.

Midwives could be owed 'thousands' in back-pay

The RCM union in the United Kingdom is conducting action that would make hundreds of midwives eligible for thousand of pounds of back-pay. The back pay for on-call employment goes back as far as 20 years.
